Attractive period Black Full-Leather Binding with blind-tooled decoration on front & back. 5 Raised Bands to spine with Gilt Title in 2nd Compartment and blind stamped Decoration in other compartments. Beveled Edges. All Page Edges Gilt.
1244 p. pages, 11 1/2" Tall.
In NVG condition. Some wear to leather at spine ends and a small tear at top corner of spine (see photo).
Some spots of foxing on Title, Dedicatory and Contents pages and first page of Genesis but only a few spots on a few pages elsewhere.
This Victorian Bible contains much interesting Genealogical information on the "Manning" and "Lane" Families, and others. Entries begin with extracts from the Diary of Joseph Paice, Member of Lyme Regis 1700 which gives details of the "Paice" family from 1533, proceeding to the Gibson, Oke Manning and Lane Families. Also included is a newspaper cutting on William Manning who was one of the earliest British Aircraft Designers and an envelope with information on the pedigree of the "Lane Family". The last entry is for Miss Alice M. Manning, who died in 1934. Antique Bookplate with the armorial bearing of the Manning Family is on the Endpaper. ( I have another Bible that descended to Miss Alice M. Manning and would be happy to give a discount on these Bibles to help keep them together as there is much Genealogical information in them).
