Frontispiece illustration of author and patient, with tissue guard. Small tear top of title-page without paper loss. Papers are toned around periphery. Front hinge starting. Several full-page ilustrations through text material. 379pp. See BAL 145 for first edition, published in 1869. Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American writer, well-known for her "Little Women"and "Little Men" novels with sequels. Her "Hospital Sketches" were based on letters she sent home while serving as a volunteer nurse ifor the Union Army in Georgetown during the Civil War.
