The office's main concerns are those associated with transportation and transportation needs across the country. Established in 1967, the DOT is administered by the United States Secretary of Transportation. Some of the DOT's larger agencies include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Department of Transportation and its agencies create numerous publications each year to educate the public about certain areas of transportation, new technology in the field, and the histories of the agencies and the department.
