Item description from seller

1962 special edition of "The Haggadah" published by "Massadah" and "Alumoth" (Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv). Beautiful blue velvet cover hardback edition housed in its original matching blue slip case. The slip case does have some spots along with shelf wear on the front cover but it has protected the book itself nicely. Some slight foxing on the front end paper and page edges of the book. The remainder of the interior is flawless. 56 double-leaved pages. Decorated with gold-stamped Kiddush Goblet motif. Illustrated and executed by Arthur Szyk and edited by Cecil Roth. Inside of front and back board illustrated with b/w reproduction of a drawing by Szyk. Beautiful color frontispiece along with many color heavily embellished illustrations throughout. Does have a gift inscription on front title page. Text in English and Hebrew. This edition is renowned for its luxurious presentation. Binding: Royal blue velvet-covered boards adorned with gilt lettering and illustrations on the spine and boards. Cover Art: Features a gold Kiddush cup emblem on both the front and back covers. Slipcase: Housed in a matching blue velvet-lined clamshell box with gilt lettering, providing both protection and elegance. The combination of rich materials and intricate design elements makes this edition a standout piece among Passover Haggadot. Arthur Szyk's illustrations in this Haggadah are celebrated for their vibrant colors and intricate details: Szyk employed a style reminiscent of illuminated medieval manuscripts, infused with Art Deco elements, bringing a unique and modern touch to traditional themes. The illustrations were reproduced using high-quality color printing techniques, ensuring vivid and lasting images. Includes numerous full-page illustrations and decorative borders that enhance the storytelling of the Exodus and the rituals of the Passover Seder. These illustrations not only serve an aesthetic purpose but also deepen the reader's engagement with the text. The 1962 blue velvet edition of The Haggadah is highly sought after by collectors and Judaica enthusiasts: (BR) Shelf 212.
