This is the premiere issue of an unrecorded magazine packed with photographic images of hairstyles modeled by African American women. It holds details on achieving the "designs," extended features on hair trends and fashions, and illustrated ads for Black beauty products. We weren't able to discover anything about HairJet, its staff or publishers, but the content speaks for itself. It has countless large and lovely images of Black women and their hair, most with detailed captions naming the stylist, describing the cut's steps and its effects. As expected for the time, nearly all of the models are quite light-skinned, with styles that required relaxation of the hair. There are longer features on "Split-Level Hairdos For Evenings," "varieties of the sleek look that all gals strive for," "dramatic styles by Mr. Rudel . . . featuring the new startling polka dot head band" and wigs that "make a delightfully different you." One great photo feature shows the work of African American Clairol color consultant Lorraine Ewing at the New York World's Fair, and there are four full-page illustrated ads for hair treatments, "wiglets" and tools. A rare magazine on hair fashion for Black women. Not located in OCLC and not found in Danky Hady.
