About the Author
STUART A.P. MURRAY has authored 40 books in a career of more than 35 years, which began with journalism - as both reporter and editor. Murray has written eight nonfiction titles on American military history, including the Revolution, the Civil War, and the Vietnam War. His book about the Shakers, America's Shaker Heritage, was recommended by Library Journal.
SARAH NOVAK, former managing editor of Berkshire House Publishers, is a freelance writer and editor specializing in history, culture, and travel. Recent editing projects include Searching for Thoreau: On the Trails and Shores of Wild New England; From the Blackstone to the Housatonic: A History of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts; and numerous travel guides. She has a degree in English from the College of William and Mary and also studied at St. Andrews University, Scotland.
DAVID WEST REYNOLDS, Ph.D. is an archaeologist, consultant, space expert, and best-selling author of nine books. Reynolds earned his Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology at the University of Michigan, specializing in Imperial Rome and ancient Egypt. In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Reynolds taught college archaeology and guided international tours.
Thomas Cussans is a distinguished freelance author and journalist, a regular contributor to The Times, The Sunday Times, and The Spectator in London. He worked for 10 years as an editor at Times Books, directing a variety of major titles, including new editions of the million-selling Times (Hammond) Atlas of World History and The Times (Hammond) Atlas of the Twentieth Century.
ELIZABETH MECHEM is a freelance writer and editor. Her work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle. Her most recent nonfiction book is Legends of Country, an appreciation of country musicians. She holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature and an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing. Mechem teaches writing at the New School in New York City.
PATRICIA WRIGHT is a freelance writer, editor, and professional artist. She is the author of Eyewitness Art: Goya and Eyewitness Art: Manet, commissioned by Dorling Kindersley Ltd. Her most recent publication is an illustrated overview of the history and development of American Art, American Art & Artists, written in association with the Smithsonian Museum and published by HarperCollins in 2007. She had also written and edited numerous articles and publications in the fields of art, history and religion.
