Light soiling to surface of cloth with small patch of bleached staining to left edge of front board. Joints abraded with small tear. End bands lightly crushed. Front fly leaf is torn at edge with small age stain at center. Light toning throughout with minor instances of foxing. Old offsetting from a plant on pages 52-53 affecting the gutter. Binding remains intact. Small old hand inscription on rear leaf of index. Please see photos. For a brief period, Pierre Blot was perhaps America s first celebrity chef. He styled himself Professor of Gastronomy. He wrote cookbooks and ran a cooking school. Ultimately, he may have made a basic marketing error, though, of trying to teach upper-class ladies about food preparation at a time when they simply wanted their servants to learn how to do it for them. .
