A beautiful doll with long, dark curls and a velvet coat has been passed from owner to owner: a spoiled little girl, a farmer and his wife, a woman who works the ring-toss booth at a county fair, a chauffeur, a waiter, and a dirty-faced boy. Keep me and love me and give me a name, begs the doll. Finally, her luck changes when she meets a little girl who appreciates her and takes her home. Originally published in 1983, the slightly shortened text is beautifully interpreted in Dan Andreasen’s nostalgic oil-painted illustrations.
The late Steven Kroll wrote many popular children’s books, including The Biggest Pumpkin Ever, Jungle Bullies, Super-Dragon, The Tyrannosaurus Game, and Stuff! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (Honorable Mention, Green Book Festival 2009). He lived in New York City and Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Dan Andreasen began professionally as a sculptor for American Greetings Corp. where he designed figurines, Christmas ornaments and gift products. In the last twenty-five years he has illustrated more than twenty-five picture books. He is the illustrator of two of the American Girl historical characters, Felicity and Samantha. Dan also is the illustrator of the New Little House series of books, The Rose Years, The Caroline Years, and The Charlotte Years. He lives in Orlando, Florida with his wife and three children.
