Handbook of Individual Therapy

This major new revised edition of the highly successful Individual Therapy: A Handbook presents a comprehensive and authoritative overview of 12 key approaches to individual therapy. All chapters have been updated or completely rewritten. Britain′s leading counselors and psychotherapists introduce their areas of expertise in a concise and accessible format. Each chapter places a specific approach in its historical context, outlines its main theoretical assumptions, and sets out its mode of practice, using ample case examples to illustrate the approach in action. Examining each approach′s strengths and limitations, the contributors also clarify how practitioners select clients who can benefit from particular therapies. Chapters also place counseling and psychotherapy in their social context, relate research to actual therapeutic practice, and explore the training and supervision of individual therapists. The Handbook of Individual Therapy is designed for beginning therapists interested in obtaining an overall picture of the practice of individual therapy; experienced therapists and counselors who want to learn about alternative approaches to individual therapy; students of counseling, social work, and applied psychology; as well as any professional in the helping professions.
