This expanded and fully updated Handbook contains new results and adds some significant modifications, most notably a new section on "Negative Stiffness and Damping," which is critical for understanding dynamic processes in mechanical systems.
The book will be useful for practicing engineers working in the field of machine design, design of machine
elements, machine dynamics, mechatronics, robotics and precision engineering. It will also be a useful reference for educators, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students.
Dr. Rivin has published 15 monographs and book chapters, as well as 150+ articles. His latest books are: Mechanical Design of Robots (1988); Stiffness and Damping in Mechanical Design (1999); Passive Vibration Isolation (2003); Innovation on Demand (2005, with Victor Fey). Dr. Rivin has 60+ patents (26 US Patents); some widely implemented in the US, former USSR, and worldwide.
