This work is even more remarkable for the fact that the author wrote it while still a high school student in Australia, with no direct contact with survivors of the war. Several years on, she returned to it with benefit of further research and experience to create a gripping tale that recalls The Diary of Anne Frank.

Kiri English-Hawke is an Australian born author who grew up in Sydney hearing stories of WWII from differing perspectives. She currently lives in Northern Italy with her partner, where she is studying languages, and continues to write and immerse herself in foreign cultures and histories. She is a voracious reader and dedicated researcher who has been penning her thoughts since she learned to write. Kiri currently works as a translator and English tutor. In her 'spare time', she has been to the Australian and Italian National Rowing Championships.
