Gift inscription tag oblong 2 x 5, message in brown ink written on the reverse of a Christmas and New Year gift tag, ring 1 1/4" diameter, napkin 19 x 16, cream colored, cotton or linen, the name "Carver" embroidered in brown thread. Gift tag has creasing, soiling (mainly on the printed Christmas and New Year side) which also has abrasions and sticky tape, the side with the inscription has only light soiling/creasing, bone is yellowing but is still in good shape, napkin has staining and a small fraying hole. In 1934, Dr. Carver met Austin Curtis, Jr., a Cornell graduate in chemistry who had taught at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College before accepting a position at Tuskegee Institute. Curtis became great friends with Dr. Carver and he entered into a research partnership with him. Dr. Carver died in 1943 and bequeathed Curtis the royalties -- from the authorized 1943 biography of him by Rackham holt. After Carver's death, Curtis left Tuskegee and settled in Detroit where he manufactured and sold peanut-based personal care products. COMES WITH: a fine, lightweight linen hankie with "C" embroidered in one corner, good condition. A total of four pieces: napkin ring, napkin, hankie and HANDWRITTEN GIFT INSCRIPTION TAG, WRITTEN AND SIGNED BY CARVER. Unique.
