15 page letter on note-sized paper from Mrs. C. Burnell Olds in Okayama, Japan dated Oct, 27, 1925. Envelope present but postmark and stamp portion gone. Olds reports that she had visited the True Beauty Girls School right near the hills and quite a distance from town in the summer and spoke to the girls about Bronson and her interest in the school. She gave the school a photo of Bronson and the school had enlarged and framed the picture to hang it, perhaps in their assembly hall to honor Bronson's support. Olds reports that the principal (formerly strongly opposed Christianity) is attending church and has a strong commitment to temperance and purity. Olds is now teaching English to the girls at the school for two hours every Monday and hopes to help bring Christianity to the school and its teachers. She reports on the completion of a modest church for 1800 yen. Olds suggests that it would be wonderful if Bronson could give $100 toward the unmet cost and then continues "But I do not wish to urge this . for you have so many calls to help much nearer home." She also mentions the need for an Amusement Hall and laments, "But where is the money coming from?" Olds reports that a new minister for the church just arrived from America ". with a lovely wife and five little ones"). She finishes with a report on her two sons, both then studying in the U. S. We found a brief report on the death of Olds in Japan in the April 23, 1939 issue of the New York Times. Olds was born to a missionary family in Kobe and had been a missionary in Japan since 1903.
