Harbor of New Names (Fate versus Faith)

A map can be accurate and still erase the people who know the place best.

In a rapidly changing nineteenth-century Yokohama, Aiko Mori has learned to read more than coastlines. Every copied boundary carries a decision about whose path matters, whose labor receives credit, and whose knowledge becomes official.

Her skill is welcome as long as it remains hidden behind another person’s name. But when new commissions bring foreign charts, disputed routes, and a traveler who deliberately leaves part of his coast blank, Aiko begins asking a dangerous question: Who has the right to turn another person’s world into information?

Family obligation, intimate loyalty, and public upheaval pull her in different directions. Each correction earns new trust—and exposes another way that institutions can absorb a person’s knowledge without recognizing the person herself.

Unknown to Aiko, the maps she chooses to complete, refuse, or leave unfinished will become evidence in a judgment far larger than any harbor.

Harbor of New Names is Book Four of the Fate versus Faith series, an interconnected historical speculative saga about memory, moral responsibility, and the Deciders whose choices will help determine whether humanity deserves to continue.
