About The Author: Author Sara Paretsky was born in Ames, Iowa on June 8, 1947. She received a degree in political science from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D in history and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Her own background as an enthusiastic reader of mysteries has given Paretsky an almost intuitive feel for the conventions of detective fiction. Like Sue Grafton, Paretsky does not violate the formula for hard-boiled detective stories; she has intentionally set out to create a Raymond Chandler-type character in her protagonist V. I. Warshawsky. Paretsky wants to show a woman succeeding in a traditional male role. Paretsky has won numerous awards for her work including the Silver Dagger Award for Toxic Shock, the Gold Dagger award for Blacklist, and the Diamond Dagger for Lifetime achievement from the British Crime Writers Association.

About the Author

Sara Paretsky is the author of fourteen previous books, including twelve V. I. Warshawski novels. She is the winner of many awards, including the Cartier Diamond Dagger Award for lifetime achievement from the British Crime Writers’ Association. She lives in Chicago.
