Harper (Paperback)

Paperback. A Mafia Boss steps out of his restaurant on an early Saturday morning. Two shots, muffled, from afar, deadly, and lives are overturned. It had to be the work of a professional sniper. They will never catch him, though they are duty bound to try. John Hart, Homicide, tackles his toughest case. Who ordered the hit? Why? The obvious suspect is Arno Gianni, the Don of the rival Mafia family. Suspicions don't convict anyone. He needs evidence and a solid story for how it came together. He needs a motive. She calls herself Harper. She lives in the shadows. Every day is a test of survival, safety, warmth, food, and education. She doesn't feel. Emotions take her to pain and heartbreak. They pull her back into a sad past. Someday she will be older, willing to think of a future. Someday she will come into the dim. By herself? No, she hasn't faced it, but she will need a pillar of strength, someone to trust. She didn't need to help Hart. He's a cop after all and that makes him an enemy. But, justice must be done. She won't let the guilty get away with this crime. Did you ever find a bird with a broken wing? Were you compelled to catch it, mend the broken, feed it and help it get strong? Could you release it and let it soar? John Hart, when you find her will you mend her brokenness? Will you pull her from the shadows? She wants to soar.
