About this Item
This interesting diagram was originally published in Paris, likely in the 1920s, as part of a dictionary. It was included to illustrate the definition of height (hauteur in French) and presents the various mountains and tall buildings of the world with their corresponding elevation. Also included are a balloon and airplane, which help to date the sheet to sometime after 1918 (the first flight at such a height). About a decade after publication, the Empire State Building would surpass the Eiffel Tower as the tallest building in the world. Note the special 'cut-out' in the lower chart to accommodate the tower's size - likely a bit of unnecessary grandstanding by the French! Sheet Width (in) 6.9 Sheet Height (in) 10.1 Condition Description Small tears in the upper right margin just enter the title. Very good overall. Seller Inventory # 4037
