The Hawthorn That Stayed

The Hawthorn That Stayed is a gentle, richly illustrated story about noticing the living world around us.

At the edge of a village stands an ancient hawthorn tree—older than the cottages, older than the people who pass beneath its branches. When a bright orange mark appears on its trunk, the Keeper and two curious children begin to look more closely.

They find birds nesting in its boughs, insects among its roots, and small creatures sheltering in its shade. As the village prepares to make a decision about the tree, the children discover that an old hawthorn is not simply one tree—it is a whole world of stories, homes, memories, and life.

With hidden details to spot and gentle questions to wonder about together, The Hawthorn That Stayed is a warm folklore-inspired picture book about care, patience, and learning to listen before we act.

A beautiful read-aloud for children who love nature, village stories, and a little everyday magic.
