About the Author

The author was born in 1942 in Prague, Czech Republic, as a son of a shopkeeper whose business was nationalized in 1952. He spent eighteen years under communism. Because of excelling in gymnastics, he was able to study sports at Charles University of Prague from 1963 to 1966. In 1966 he left for Sweden and came to the U.S. in 1968. He studied psychology at Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, and received MS in physical education and psychology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. He came to San Antonio, Texas, in 1974 and lives there since. In 1977 he opened his own gymnastic school for children and transformed it together with his wife, Melanie, to a noncompetitive environment designed for children and parents. The Northern Hills Gymnastics-the "Summerhill of USA"-closed down in the year 2000 so he could devote more time to translating A Course in Miracles to Czech language that he initiated in 1989.
