AI in Healthcare: Theory to Application: A commentary about the progress form conception to implementation

Health Services across the world both in developed and developing countries will see increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in all aspects of healthcare. Rapid developments in deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing and robotics and use of these approaches in non-health context will convince governments and health services to adopt these approaches in healthcare solutions. This will potentially lead to improved patient outcomes, minimization of medical errors, and cost savings. At the same moment, there may be a degree of resistance from clinicians and patients in incorporating AI applications in healthcare because of the potential for disruption in traditional models of care. So, there will be some work required by health services and software developers to involve clinicians and patients in the development of AI solutions and convincing them of the benefits in the use of AI enabled health applications. This book is an attempt to educate various stakeholders including the general public about AI, it’s advantages and limitations and importantly how to appropriately reap the benefits of this technology in healthcare.
