Vince Kunda, living in retirement with Selinha for company has a surprise visit from Stanton Rabvu, the former chief spook of one of the liberation movements during the Zimbabwe war of liberation. Stanton says his only son is in Harare, Zimbabwe, and they haven't spoken to each other for years. Could Vince please arrange to see him and pass a message of reconciliation to him? But Vince sees a problem in all that. Army tanks and armoured cars are rolling into the city from the countryside and the political situation is like a volcano waiting to explode. It is not a matter of if, but when. Vince is not prepared to take the unnecessary risk of going over to Harare. Things take a dramatic turn when Adriano, Selinha's brother calls from his base in Lisbon in the dead of the night and asks her to go over to assess the situation in Harare, because his mining operations in Zimbabwe are under threat. The unstable political situation has had him sitting on edge for days. Vince has to watch his step because Vickie Senkwe, the Zambia Security and Intelligence Service chief of operations has gotten wind of what is going on. She throws a surveillance net around him and threats to have him locked up, alleging that he has involved himself in a plot to overthrow a democratically elected government. From that moment, Vince realizes that what could go wrong will go wrong. Once he gets to Harare, if he does get there, he will have no option but to operate under Moscow Rules, because the environment there promises to be as hostile as ever.
