About the Authors

Andi Vonlanthen, Ph.D. is the Vice President of Research &Development at Unitron Hearing, a global manufacturer of hearing instruments and associated technologies located in Kitchener, Canada. In this role, he has overall responsibility for technology research and product development. Prior to this, Andi worked in Research & Development at Phonak Hearing Systems in Stafa, Switzerland for 18 years. Andi has been responsible for many innovations in the hearing instrument industry - including the first multi microphone system used in hearing instruments. Andi is a recognized authority in the field of hearing instrument technology, and since 1989 has been lecturing acousticians worldwide on the science and technology of hearing instrument systems.

Horst Arndt, Ph.D. graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia (BASc), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SM) and Carleton University (PhD). Horst worked at Bell Northern Research for 13 years in research and design of transducers, telephone apparatus, semiconductors, digital signal processing, and ergonomics. Horst joined Unitron in 1981 as Director R&D and retired from the position of Vice President R&D in 2002. He has played a major role in the development of analog hearing aids, digitally programmable products of the behind-the-ear and in-the ear types, and initiated research into digital signal processing technology for hearing aids in the late 1980�s. This technology is now matured and applied in Unitron Hearing�s digital product line. Horst has been a member of IEC/TC29/WG13: �Hearing Aids� since the mid-1980�s. He has served as a member of the HIA Technical Committee and on ANSI 63.19 to develop a standard for the measurement of compatibility between wireless communication devices and hearing aids.
