Synopsis:

This book presents an architectural approach to documenting a business and it presents the resulting architecture as the heart and brain of the business as an autonomic system. Certain functions of the body are referred to as autonomic because they are involuntary and they are performed unconsciously. Like the body breathes without us thinking about it, so should architecture be part of the life of a business, without it being forced and without it being a planned event. As involuntary functions, there is no need to mention agility and as you will see, having architecture data on hand makes for an agile business.

About the Authors: Mr. Insolia played a leadership role in four of the most significant business transformation and business re-engineering efforts of the past decade: IBM, Department of Defense, NYC Government, and now NYS Government. For each of these business transformations he applied well defined business models like the Porter Value Chain Model and business process improvement/re-engineering techniques to optimize many facets of these businesses. Today he applies his leadership skills and knowledge of business transformation in his own management consulting business for clients like the Department of Veteran Affairs and other agencies of the Federal Government.

Mr. Russell Boyd is an award winning and published enterprise architect serving as an independent consultant supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). His personal consulting specialties include IT Strategy development for Enterprise-wide IT architectures, healthcare-technology planning, and systems management. He has helped clients achieve their business objectives and realize the value of their networked, multi-vendor computing systems through a business and performance driven approach using enterprise architecture development. Mr. Boyd has over 30 years' experience and is a certified enterprise architect, served as a USAF Officer providing thought leadership and hands-on implementation of architecture programs, IT strategy with IT portfolio alignment to technology, development of architecture products using established frameworks, methodologies and tools.

David Rice is a recognized expert in Enterprise Architecture using the DoD Architecture Framework, the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework and the Zachman Framework. David is highly skilled in the application of multiple modeling techniques and tools necessary for the construction and maintenance of enterprise architecture artifacts and data and is experienced in leveraging EA data for the purposes of decision support, capability analysis, Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and software design and development.
