Some 250 instrument makers are interviewed, and their careful work is documented in 350 illustrations. Jacobson's beautiful photographs pay tribute to the dedication and passion expressed in the handwork of these creative artists, many of them unheralded. His words and images reveal their joy in working with their hands, as well as a deep love for music that led many of these artisans to give up lucrative careers and follow their hearts.
