Reviews
The Scholls were key members of the White Rose, a student organization centered at the University of Munich that for several months (1942-43) prepared and disseminated anti-Nazi leaflets. Representing six years worth of diaries and letters, these well-edited extracts suggest how, over time, both brother and sister subconsciously prepared for the brave work they eventually undertook. It is simultaneously uplifting and agonizing to witness their gradual moral/philosophical development and their speedy capture and execution. For more specific information on the actual organization, see their sister Inge Scholl's The White Rose: Munich, 1942-1943 ( Wesleyan Univ. Pr., 1983). For public and academic libraries. Mark R.
