However, microbial contamination was significantly higher in Nemipterus japonicus, which also showed elevated levels of essential and non-essential heavy metals. Health risk assessments revealed that children are more vulnerable to heavy metal accumulation than adults. The study concluded that fish from this region, particularly Nemipterus japonicus, pose health risks due to contamination exceeding safety limits, necessitating urgent environmental protection measures.
