Yes You Can: A Helpbook for the Physically Disabled

Explains to the disabled how to get an education or a job, maintain a social life, improve independence and mobility, and find the help they need

Despite her childhood paralysis, Hoffa's spunk enabled her to lead a full, productive life. Her tremendously upbeat book, based on a lifetime of experience, is filled with practical advice for handicapped persons. Tips for selecting living quarters, choosing a personal care attendant, finding a job, traveling, and doing appropriate exercise are among the topics covered. Much of the advice is applicable to everyone; cultivate a positive attitude, define achievable goals, develop a support system. The useful chapter on gadgets includes an easily understood synopsis of features to consider when buying a computer. Included also are hints for communicating with elected officials to secure entitlements lost to bureaucratic bungling. A comprehensive appendix contains listings of distributors of specialized equipment and products, addresses of organizations, and even computer bulletin boards for the disabled. Recommended.
