About this Item

Mounted original photo (cabinet card), printed in sepia. Mount is ca. 8 x 4 1/2 inches. The caption, hand-lettered within the negative, appears at the lower left. This put-upon and soulful burro is laden with explosives, bottles of rum, a jug, frying pans, shovels, a rope, and more. The same burro shows up in other Hiestand photos and postcards (often misidentified as a mule), but this particular view is uncommon. Hiestand was the official photogapher of the Pikes Peak cog railway, which carried tourists up from Manitou Springs. Can be sent outside the US for less than the default shipping rate. Photo is very good; back of mount is browned and rubbed.
