About the Author

Dr. Rashidi is a leader in on-line education and a pioneer in incorporating digital educational technologies and tools in medical education, specifically in hematology and pathology. He is the co-founder and editor of Hematology Outlines, a leading resource for hematology education that includes a very popular free online Hematology Atlas and Glossary along with its top-rated companion iphone and ipad Apps. These educational tools are now an integral part of various courses in several medical schools and Clinical Laboratory Scientist training programs. The online and App versions have received the highest reviews and have been used by students, residents, fellows and practitioners in the United States and abroad with over 200,000 users internationally since its inception. Dr. Rashidi is not new to the digital technology arena. Before medical school he was working on his graduate degree which was focused on Bioinformatics (specifically studying protein structures and structure prediction algorithms). That experience familiarized him with computer programming and several software tools that enabled him to author several popular textbooks in Bioinformatics. However, upon graduating medical school his passion for teaching led him down a different path which included developing and incorporating digital and technologic tools in the education arena. The most popular of which was the development of Hematology Outlines which incorporate various novel digital tools into their online site and their Apps. This project started back in 2011 at UC San Diego medical school’s hematology course along with Dr. John Nguyen when Dr. Rashidi was serving as the hematology course director. Over the next several years, the Hematology Outlines Atlas and its companion digital tools were well received by various Institutions in US (including its integration in the UC Davis medical school’s Hematology and Hematopathology courses when Dr. Rashidi joined the faculty in 2014 and had been serving as the Co-IOR of the course).
