Seller: Joel Rudikoff Art Books, White Plains, NY, U.S.A.
First 4to, cloth. 149 pp of text, 139 b/w illustrations, chronological table, bibliography, index of names. The earliest major study in English on this Seventeenth-Century Dutch painter-etcher. He led the revival of etching in the Netherlands and was the first to produce polychromatic prints in this medium, the result of extensive studies and experimementation. After Seghers's death (c.1638), Rembrandt acquired at least one of his etched plates ("Tobias and the Angel"), which he reworked for his own "The Flight into Egypt" (Bartsch 56; Hind 266). Freitag 8826; Riggs, p. 712. Generally very good, but with highlighter on about a dozen pages of the text. The markings are mostly in the margins and are generally unobtrusive, but three or four pages have several lines underscored. More than serviceable as a reading copy. No dj. Seller Inventory # 22941
