About the Author
Dr. Elmer Towns is a college and seminary professor, an author of popular and scholarly works having published over 56 books. In 1995 he received the coveted Gold Medallion Award for The Names of the Holy Spirit. He and his wife of 53 years, Ruth, have three children and ten grandchildren. He is Dean at,The B. R. Lakin School of Religion, Liberty University, Lynchburg,VA. (co-founder of the University with Dr. Jerry Falwell, but spends most of his activities in studies, teaching and writing, rather than performing administrative University duties). He has four years study of Greek and Hebrew at Dallas Theological Seminary.Towns books on Bible study have reflected how he s handled the original text. He wrote John: Believe and Live, a text book published by Fleming Revell that is a verse by verse commentary of the Greek text for English readers. Kregel has included this book in their series of commentaries on the entire New Testament, i.e., Kregel s Commentary on the New Testament. He served on the Overview Committee for the translating of the New King James Bible, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, Inc.This committee determined the principles by which the translators did their work. Towns is co-founder of Church Growth Institute, Lynchburg,VA (a resource outlet for biblical and instructional material) and continues to lead seminars for Church Growth Seminars.
