Synopsis
Veteran travel writer Patricia Mandell leaves no road
untraveled in her effort to update this coastal getaway guide, which
has been highly praised for its opinionated reviews and selective
recommendations. Like other Hidden titles, Hidden Boston and Cape Cod
reviews the Old Bay State's famed attractions -- such as Old North
Church and Walden Pond -- then invites readers to go further by
exploring "hidden" spots other guides overlook, like small inns and
local restaurants. The book also focuses on adventure travel, with
detailed information on beaches, parks, hiking trails, biking paths,
and other outdoor activities. Mandell brings the region's history
alive at 150 historical sights and 45 museums but also reveals the
local culture, with over a dozen specialty bookstores and listings for
gay travelers. The guide reviews over 100 seaside inns and suggests
three-day getaway itineraries and driving and walking tours. "Zoom-in"
maps help readers orient themselves in each area of Boston.
