(Women's Alliance to gain Equality) to defend hard fought-for legislation which protected women on the job. From the very beginning feminist supporters of the E.R.A. had been divided over the issue of whether this legislation should be extended to men as part of the E.R.A. or whether a "pure" E.R.A. which would wipe it out should be the goal of the feminist movement.
