A sky changing constantly through light and cloud formations, an isle formed by water and wind: the Baltic island of Hiddensee has always been a place where painters, writers and musicians have attempted to capture the unique ambiences of this island in their works. The Berlin artist Harald Hoffmann de Vere has achieved this in a distinctive way: with a gentle and at times also calligraphic brushstroke, he gives permanent form to the rolling of the sea and the whistling of the wind in the dune grass. Again and again, the island of Hiddensee has drawn the painter there to create his art. This volume invites you to journey to Hiddensee: in over 100 watercolors, overpaintings and oil paintings, it presents the impressive work of the artist Harald Hoffmann de Vere, who is able to capture the beauty of the island in all the magnificence of its colors.
