Print on Demand. This book offers an algorithm called Hierarchical Timestamping for database concurrency control. Concurrency control is a fundamental computer science challenge involving balancing the need for secure data management with efficient data processing. The author places the algorithm within the historical evolution of concurrency control, emphasizing the limitations of established approaches. The author positions the Hierarchical Timestamping algorithm as an improvement over the conventional multi-version timestamping algorithm, particularly when a database can be structured hierarchically. The book delves into the details of how the algorithm operates, including mathematical proofs for its effectiveness and applications in real-world scenarios. The book concludes by highlighting how the Hierarchical Timestamping algorithm can enhance the performance of database systems, particularly in situations where data access patterns exhibit hierarchical characteristics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

This book introduces a partitioned view of data that helps transactions run more concurrently. It blends ideas from timestamping and locking, showing how a transaction might use different timestamps depending on which data partition it touches. It also compares this method with traditional locking protocols and other timestamping schemes, highlighting tradeoffs in performance and complexity.
- How data is decomposed into partitions and organized into a hierarchy for better concurrency control.
- Rules for classifying transactions based on the partitions they access and how those decisions affect execution order.
- Three protocols that govern reads, writes, and conflicts, and when each is used to optimize throughput.
- The theoretical basis for correctness, including how serializability is maintained in a hierarchical setup.
Ideal for readers of database theory and practitioners seeking deeper insight into advanced concurrency control techniques.

Other policies
Please note that we cannot accept cancellation requests once an order has been placed.
All Forgotten Books titles are printed on demand. The moment an order is submitted, it is automatically transmitted to our distributor and then forwarded to the printer, where it enters production. This process begins within minutes and is entirely automated.
A cancellation, however, is a manual, multi-step request that must pass through several systems. By the time such a request reaches the appropriate stage, the book has almost always been printed, packed, or already dispatched, which makes cancellation impossible.
For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
