About the Author
Wayne Westcott, Ph.D., is the fitness research director for the South Shore YMCA in Quincy, Massachusetts. A prolific writer and highly sought-after speaker, Dr. Westcott is a world renowned health/fitness professional. In his extraordinarily active career, he has made over 450 professional presentations and has written over 200 published articles and two dozen books. For his professional efforts, he has been honored numerous times, including receiving the prestigious Healthy American Fitness Leaders Award from the President s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
Tracy D'Arpino holds a B.S. in health and fitness and is a licensed physical therapy assistant. She is the associate fitness research director at the South Shore YMCA, where she has conducted several research studies with Dr. Westcott on high-intensity strength training. In addition to her work with advanced strength training techniques, Tracy has developed numerous fitness programs for people with disabilities. These include the "Partnership Program" for quadriplegics, stroke victims, blind, deaf, and other physically challenged individuals, the "Conquer Life Program" for cancer patients, the "Kids in Motion Program" for children with special needs and the "Focus on Abilities Program" for emotionally challenged adults. Tracy has worked closely with Wayne for almost 10 years, and together they have done several high-intensity strength training workshops for the fitness instructors in the United States Navy. Tracy, who lives in Quincy, MA, is an avid marathon runner, triathlete, and fitness enthusiast.
