Synopsis
Explore the life experiences, influences, and personal views of Hillary Clinton from her childhood in 1950s suburban Chicago to her presidential run in 2016. While numerous volumes have been written about Hillary Clinton, many authors have devoted entire books to just one aspect of Clinton's public or private life. Yet few, if any, have provided a comprehensive look at her life in public service from an objective, scholarly viewpoint. Designed both for students doing research and general readers wanting to know more about Clinton's life and career, this book not only offers an overview of her education, family, career, and political views, but also provides historical context to her choices, accomplishments, and defeats. The volume's chapters present a chronological telling of her life story thus far including key experiences, influences, and the development of her political views. The volume also includes photographs and short sidebars, which help to tie Clinton's personal experiences to the contemporaneous culture of the nation. A lengthy bibliography provides assistance to readers interested in further research or reading.
About the Authors
Kathleen Gronnerud teaches US history and women's history at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California. She is the author of Hillary Clinton: A Life in American History (2019) and co-editor of Modern Political Dynasties: A Study of Power, Family, and Political Influence (2018).
Peg A. Lamphier, PhD, teaches interdisciplinary humanities at California State Polytechnic University and Women's History at Mount San Antonio College. Lamphier wrote Kate Chase and William Sprague: Politics and Gender in a Civil War Marriage (2003) and Spur Up Your Pegasus: Family Letters of Salmon, Kate, and Nettie Chase, 1844–1873 (2009), and coedited Women in American History: A Social, Political, and Cultural Encyclopedia and Document Collection (ABC-CLIO 2017) and Technological Innovation in American History: An Encyclopedia (ABC-CLIO 2019). She also co-authored The Civil War on Film and American Women's History on Film (Bloomsbury 2020, 2022).
Rosanne Welch is Executive Director of the Stephens College MFA in TV and Screenwriting, USA. She has TV writing credits on Beverly Hills 90210, Picket Fences, Nightline and Touched by an Angel. Her award-winning publications include When Women Wrote Hollywood (2018) and Women in American History (2017). She has additionally written American Women's History on Film (2023) and The Civil War on Film (2021).
