In 1880, Foss was consecrated a bishop and served in Minneapolis and Philadelphia. He also traveled extensively for the Methodist Church, documenting his journeys in his published work From the Himalayas to the Equator. An accomplished preacher, Foss authored several sermons and addresses. He passed away in 1910 and was buried in Pawling, NY. His papers are held at Wesleyan and Drew Universities.
