"Hippocrates. Vol. 3" presents a vital collection of surgical treatises from the Hippocratic Corpus, offering a profound look into the medical practices and clinical observations of ancient Greece. Translated by E. T. Withington, this volume includes foundational texts such as "On Wounds in the Head," "In the Surgery," "On Fractures," "On Joints," and "Instruments of Reduction." These works represent some of the earliest and most systematic records of human anatomy and the treatment of physical trauma.

The treatises contained within this volume focus on the practical application of medical knowledge, detailing sophisticated methods for setting broken bones, reducing dislocations, and managing cranial injuries. As part of the prestigious Loeb Classical Library tradition, this work provides a bridge between the ancient world and modern understanding, preserving the rigorous intellectual shift from supernatural explanations of illness to a methodology based on physical evidence and rational treatment.

Through its detailed descriptions of surgical techniques and tools, "Hippocrates. Vol. 3" captures the technical expertise and ethical standards that defined the Hippocratic school. It remains an essential resource for scholars of classics, medical historians, and those interested in the historical evolution of the healing arts and the scientific method.
