About this title

Synopsis

"Those who have committed a serious crime are not released on bail, as the law itself says. Yet this law puts it at the discretion of the judge to decide what constitutes a serious crime." -Alberico Gentili, Hispanicae Advocationis Libri Duo (1921) Hispanicae Advocationis Libri Duo (Two Volumes in One) (1921) by Alberico Gentili was originally published in Latin in 1613 posthumously upon his request. This replica of the 1921 edition contains Volume I with the original Latin text and Volume II with the English translation by Frank Frost Abbott entitled Two Books of Advocacy in the Service of Spain. Legal writing of the time consisted of theory and generalities, however, Gentili outlines actual cases of the time period and applies the principles of international law to them. Written in support of the Spanish Armada, this book is considered a reference for international law, a must-read for those interested in its history.
