Histoire D une Madison Par Viollet-Le-Duc, Nouvelle Edition, Augmentee de 4 Planches en Couleur, Bibliotheque D Education et De Recreation, J. Hetzel, Paris, circa 1880, frontispiece with many illustrations, four colored plates, full red leather, 9.75 x 6.5 , 8vo. In good condition. Lovely binding with attractive red pebbled leather embossed with grids. Light wear to extremities with heavier wear along joints. Joints are tender. Spine lightly abraded with minor instances of scuffing at ends. White moire end papers are lightly toned at edges. Moderate, splotchy foxing throughout text with instance of light age-stain. Colored plates lightly toned. remain colorful. Binding intact. All edges gilt. Green silk book marker intact. Bookplate of Maurice Robert Des Marais on front end pastedown. Des Marais was a longtime faculty member in the Department of Architecture at Penn State College of Arts and Architecture and a corporate member of the American Institute of Architects. Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814-1879) was a French architect and author who restored many prominent medieval landmarks in France, including those which had been damaged or abandoned during the French Revolution.
