In this satire of 21st century America, our lives are being covertly observed by Historians from the year AD 2754. The future world population now lives in oceans across the globe and the time continuum, where they have no hunger, no countries, and no organized religion. They even, finally, designed a new world order to promote lasting peace. The Historians emerge from that world to mingle with and report on us in ours, undercover, during the Pandemic.

A blunder by one of these Historians triggers a potentially disastrous alternate history. That blunder puts a boy's life at risk and threatens the future of the world - but the job of repairing this "anomaly" is so dirty that only individuals with no empathy or emotional responses are suited for the task. For this reason, the Historians sent to complete this assignment are psychopaths.
