About the Author

Dr. Larry Burnette of Lillian, Alabama, has been teaching history professionally since 1948. Dr. Burnette received

his Ph.D. in history and political science from the University of Virginia. He has taught at the high school level and

on the collegiate level at Birmingham Southern, Stratford College and Virginia Military Institute. He has worked as

an editor for a book publisher and also as a consultant for community development. He is the author of numerous

articles and monographs and has recently completed a comprehensive history of Baldwin County, titled Coastal

Kingdom: A History of Baldwin County. Burnette is currently writing a book on the history of the Constitution of the
