About the Author
Larry Wagenaar, Executive Director, CEO, and leader of the Historical Society of Michigan since 2001, develops and oversees a wide range of cultural and history programming. He serves as publisher of the magazine Michigan History, the membership magazine Chronicle, and the academic journal The Michigan Historical Review. His other publications include the Michigan History Directory, the Dutch American Experience with Hans Krabbendam, and Albertus C. Van Raalte: Dutch Leader and American Patriot with Jeanne Jacobson and Elton Bruins. He holds degrees from Hope College and Kent State University. Amy Bradfield, Director of Education and Member Services, oversees HSM’ s Michigan History curriculum, its yearlong Michigan History Day® (National History Day® in Michigan) academic competition, and services to HSM members, Michigan History magazine subscribers, and donors who support HSM’ s education mission. Amy has a Master of Education in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction with a Minor in History from Texas State University and a bachelor’ s degree in Elementary Education from Hillsdale College.
