Original leather boards have been professionally rebacked with new leather spines bearing new scarlet labels lettered in gilt. Internally new endpapers in both vols retaining antique bookplate. VOL 1; a tear to engaved frontis repaired at rear with archival tape; contents clean and tight with occasional age spots and foxing. Pp xxvii,(i), 460, (8) index; index stained and grubby. VOL 2; some browning and foxing to engraved frontis and offsetting to title page; first dedication page foxed and an outbreak of foxing between pages 16 and 27, appearing intermittently thereafter but generally clean and unmarked. Pp xx, (1) + frontis, 460 + index (14) + Explanation (4) + (2) ads (soiled). The plates and maps in both vols carefully collated and all present. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
