Binding shaken, with splitting and some peeling to the spine cloth and cracked hinges; boards rubbed and edge?worn, with a few small damp?stains to the front panel. Front free endpaper laid in; several leaves working loose. Maps clean with small crease split to one. Text generally bright and unmarked, with some age?related paper cockling.Early nineteenth?century Bath guide attributed on the title?page to Sir George Smith Gibbes, physician and writer on the Bath waters, offering detailed descriptions of the city?s public buildings, institutions, and amusements, together with practical directions for taking the waters. The two folding plans and suite of engraved plates, capped by a view of Chepstow Castle, are complemented by an extensive sequence of engraved trade advertisements, providing a vivid picture of Bath?s urban, medical, and commercial life in the early Victorian period.
