Very good, second edition, in two volumes. Vol I has 496 numbered pages plus Index and a fold-out map of Northumberland; map has a 3 1/4" closed horizontal tear with an adjacent 3/4" vertical tear at the lower edge where it attaches to the spine. Vol II has 516 pages; topics include lists of Sheriffs of Northumberland since 1154; Knights of the Shire since 1272; Members of Parliament since 1553; Protestant Dissenters, Roman Catholic Chapels, and a list of County Bridges as of 1824. Marbled paper covered boards with leather on corners and spine. Board panels are scuffed. Spines have 5 raised bands, all edges in a gilt design; gilt lettering on two of the sections. Outside spine gutters are cracked but holding. Edges at head and tail of board spine, including corners, are rubbed and chipped. All board edges are scuffed, several rub-throughs on the lower and side edges; all fore-edge corners are rubbed through. Page edges are trimmed and age-soil-darkened. Bookplates on front paste-downs. Internal gutters cracked at the verso to FFEPs. Some foxing and smudges to blank pages at front and back of books, else internally clean.
