Item description from seller

A facsimile reprint of the rare 1620 London edition with the original woodcut on the title page. This story along with those of Till Eulenspiegel, Faust and Marcolf was among the most successful popular literature in the 16th-century. The various adaptations vary in their style and focus, some like this one intending to set a moral example or criticize excesses in monastic life, others simply intending to amuse the reader. 8vo, rebound in olive cloth, 37 pages. Ex-lib with all marking gently removed save the perforated seal of the University of Chicago Libraries at the top corner of the title page, with the small neat deaccession stamp below. Otherwise a very good, clean and unmarked copy. Extremely rare 17th Century imprint.
