A History of Africa. This item is unavailable.A History of Africa

Long established at the forefront of African studies, this classic history has now been revised to bring its coverage right up to date. Distilled from J.D. Fage's extensive knowledge of the sources, A History of Africa is a powerful narrative history of the continent from the beginning to the present day.
In a postscript to this third edition J.D. Fage discusses:
* the effect on Africa of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the ending of the Cold War
* the rise of Islamic fundamentalism
* the continuing problems of famine, foreign debt and warfare throughout the continent
* the tumultuous changes in South Africa leading up to and resulting from the 1994 elections.

J.D. Fage was for many years Professor of History at Birmingham and Director of the Centre for African Studies. He is the general editor of the Cambridge History of Africa and founder of the Journal of African History.
