First British edition of Ramsay's celebrated history, after its first appearance in Philadelphia in 1789. As a historian and public figure, Ramsay made an important contribution to events in America. His service as a military surgeon resulted in imprisonment at St. Augustine for a year after the capture of Charleston. After the war and until his assassination in 1815, he wrote a number of works of lasting historical value. A fundamental history of the war.
